Albert Einstein best said it:
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
Our educational system has trained us to pursue excellence. It rarely teaches us how to be effective.
A very common mistake we make as business owners is exactly that… we’re focused on doing things right instead of doing the right things.
In today’s changing world, we must stop obsessing over being excellent and focus on becoming effective with our work.
Believe me, this is important! If you’re working IN the business, it’s very easy to end up doing the wrong things with excellence and end up failing.
It’s critical that we work ON the business to make sure we’re doing the right things.
It will always be more profitable to do the right things vs doing more of the wrong things with excellence.
Ask these questions:
1.- Is our strategy not working because the strategy is bad, or because of our inability to execute the strategy?
2.- Are we struggling due to temporary EXTERNAL or INTERNAL roadblocks?
3.- What are those un-resolvable roadblocks?
4.- Which roadblocks can we immediately resolve?
5.- What strategy can we consistently execute today?
Stop focusing on excellence to discover what you should be doing today with excellence. If your business is struggling, the only thing that will change your destiny will be to reorient where you’re going today.
Stop running, start thinking.
