Is your BUSINESS mobile friendly?

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up? Chances are, you grab your phone and check updates such as mails, bbm, twitter, sms, etc. Generally, people are addicted to their smartphones (including myself)! But, what does this mean to you as a business owner?

Consumers today are moving to mobile at a rate that shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, according toStrategy Analytics, the number of smartphones in use around the world topped 1 billion in 2012. As more people use mobile to connect with your business, it leaves you no choice but to bolster efforts to market to these mobile consumers on the devices they use.

Your business should be easily accessed via these mobile devices, hence we shall be outlining two ways our business should go mobile as soon as possible.

  • Use RESPONSIVE design for your website

One current mobile marketing trend involves the concept of responsive design, which automatically adjust the layout and content of a webpage depending on the type of device and size of screen. In other words, a responsive website makes it easy and stress free to access your website on any mobile device. Have you ever visited a website on a mobile device and you end up zooming, scrolling sideways, in order to get information from the site, this can be so frustrating and turning prospects away.

Another benefit a responsive website gives is the ability to load faster.

So if you have a website already or yet to have one, ensure your website administrator is using a responsive design to enable mobile friendliness.

  • Get a mobile app for your business

A mobile app for your business is representing your business on the mobile devices of users and potential clients/customers. This is the new trend in business as it not only boost your business accessibility but also create a regular communicating medium via alert called “push notifications”, which gets users aware of latest news or offer in your business.

Having a mobile app creates an icon (the icon will be represented with your business logo) on user’s device. Clicking on the icon, tends to launch the app and displays the necessary information available on it.

One unique feature of a mobile app is its “Push” feature. This is an alert system that tends to notify users of the app on business offers, latest news, etc. it’s an effective way of running promotions via the app.

Building a typical mobile app before now requires a huge budget and still does anyway, but there are now open source platforms which allows you to build an app by yourself by simply dragging and dropping of menus. If you can operate a Microsoft word document, with these open source platform, you can build your app and get it running with very low budget.

Example of open source app building platforms are; appypie, iBuildApp.

p.s.: statistics have shown that 80% of views on a website is done with mobile device such as smartphones. If your business is not mobile friendly and accessible, you will soon be out of business, as competitors with such advantage will soon out-sell you.
